Our story starts with pancakes and coffee, because you know the real work has to happen over food. Steve Sachs was the CEO of a startup tech company and wasn’t sure how to start building a more diverse, inclusive team. He talked with other tech entrepreneurs who felt similarly, and had an idea about helping startup tech leaders build more diverse and equitable companies. It turned out his wife had a friend who worked in the Diversity and Inclusion space. She connected him to Muna Hussaini and magic happened over breakfast.

An idea turned into a plan, and a plan turned into a program. A group of Austin tech startup leaders gathered and we started on a journey of helping Austin startups become more diverse, inclusive, and equitable.

Recode the Quo is an Austin-based organization founded in 2019 by leaders in the Austin tech community. 

Our mission is to help the Austin-based startup tech community be more equitable, inclusive and diverse. We act as co-conspirators through building relationships, fostering a constructive ecosystem, and providing tools and resources to heal our city and build a new paradigm of business success.
